Always in style for a quick outside activity
The cycling cap is a bit of an icon in the cycling world. The greatest cyclists in the world were graced by the simple cloth cap going back through the last century and beyond. Some might say it looks a bit ridiculous but your cycling brethren will instantaneously recognize its distinctive shape.
In order to face the harsh elements riders were exposed to, flat caps were immediately a choice over top hats of the late 1800s, era when the first bicycle caps were documented. Originally made of tweed, they rapidly evolved to using synthetic fabric like polyester. These hats usually sport a short brim and a low profile to maintain aerodynamism.

The clipback hats are almost always offered on 5-panel caps with a camper shape (without the top button that ties each panel together), although it can also be found on classic 6 panel caps. This more recent alternative has been adopted widely by hipsters and brands like Mitchell & Ness, Huf, Diamond Supply and DKNY just to name a few.
Just like its snapback cousin, the main advantage of the clipback closure simple plastic design is its flexibility, making the hats one size fits all. It also provides a quick and easy way to loosen the cap with the push of a finger.
The evergreen style
Not to be confused with the trusty six-panel hat you’ve been wearing since your Little League days, this new silhouette can be prominent when found on ballcaps or slimming and much more fitted on jockey campers. The 5-panel cap has seen a soar in popularity in the last 5 years, although this soar is fairly undocumented.
There are two main types of 5-panel hats : the pinwheel configuration (show on the right) and the arched configuration. The first one is similar to how the 6-panel hats are sewn, except that the front seam doesn't go all the way down to the brim. The other 5-panel caps have their five parts combined over the arc of your cranium which provides a tighter fit.
